Greetings, My name is Alex Cooper. I am originally from Gwinnett County, but I have also lived in Austin, Texas and Claremont, California. After graduating from Brookwood High School, I worked odd jobs and delivered furniture in Atlanta. Unsure of what I wanted to pursue in school, I enrolled in Georgia Perimeter College. There I got an AA in Sociology. That degree really sparked an interest in higher education and learning. Upon finishing that degree, I transferred to the University of Georgia and doubled majored with a BSED in Secondary Education and BA in Political Science. While completing my degrees, I began substitute teaching in 2006 in Clarke, Madison, Walton, and Jackson counties. My first full time teaching job was at Clarke Middle School, where I stayed for 5 years and taught 6th and 7th grade Social Studies. During my time in Clarke County, I was exposed to an interdisciplinary philosophy, and I also became certified in Middle grades ELA, Science, Special Education, and Gifted Education. Since coming to Morgan County, I have been able to continue my love of teaching and acquire additional skills in education. I am currently a 7th grade Social Studies teacher, coach, member of the PBIS Committee, and perusing my Masters Degree in Gifted and Creative Learning at UGA. In my free time I like to read, hike, watch football, play guitar, and raise two great kids.
